New land cover working group

Our new LandCover6k working group will address anthropogenic land-cover change during the Holocene (from 6000 cal yr BP, or earlier) in Europe, the Americas, Africa, eastern Asia and Oceania.

Any scientist working with questions related to land-cover change in the past is welcome to participate in the working group. Involvement is also invited from historians and archaeologists.

New global monsoon study

GMonsoon logo webOur Global Monsoon Working Group has just published a paper in the open access journal Climate of the Past. 

This study, the first of two major syntheses of the group, takes a global view of monsoon variability across a wide range of timescales. The paper concludes with a discussion on future monsoon shifts in a warming world.

Soil & sediment group launched

Our new working group, Global Soil & Sediment transfers in the Anthropocene (GloSS), will integrate the domains of geomorphology, paleoecology, archaeology, and history to investigate past human-landscape interactions and the sustainable use of soils, sediments, and river systems.

GloSS will analyze the global pattern of anthropogenic soil erosion and the transfer and storage of sediment and determine the sensitivity of soil resources and sediment routing systems to varying land use types under contrasting climate regimes and socio-ecological settings.

New aquatic working group

Our new Aquatic Transitions Working Group will synthesize paleoecological records of change in aquatic systems both regionally and globally to reveal the sensitivity of sites to critical stages of human impact and the internal dynamics of changes within wetlands, rivers and lakes.

Further, Aquatic Transitions will seek to identify points of change, early warning systems and feedbacks that may provide insights for waterway management.
