INQUA project funding deadline

inqua-header textINQUA project funding is designed to support and facilitate activities that are considered priorities by its five commissions: Coastal & Marine Processes; Humans & the Biosphere; Palaeoclimates; Stratigraphy & Chronology; and Terrestrial Processes, Deposits & History.

The upcoming deadline to submit project proposals for INQUA funding in 2015 is 1st December 2014.

New dust working group

WGLogoDICEPAGES has a new working group - Dust Impact on Climate and Environment (DICE).

DICE aims to transform our current understanding of the link between aerosols, climate, dust and circulation by synthesizing results from paleo reconstructions and modern observations and integrating them in coordinated state-of-the-art modeling efforts, such as the climate model intercomparison project (CMIP5).

Arctic Holocene proxy database

arctic-hol-prox-db-fig1.pngThe PAGES-endorsed working group, Arctic Holocene Transitions, has published an extensive compilation of previously published Holocene proxy climate records from the Arctic in Climate of the Past.

The article’s 21 authors identified 170 sites from north of 58° latitude where proxy records extend back at least 6000 years and meet other criteria for resolution and age control.

PIGS logoThree recent studies from the Past Interglacials Working Group (PIGS):

1) Pol K et al. look at climate variability during the last interglacial in the E Antarctic EPICA Dome C ice core (Geo Res Let).

2) Martrat B et al. compare similarities and dissimilarities between the last two deglaciations and interglaciations in the N Atlantic region (Quat Sci Rev).

3) Mokeddem, McManus and Oppo discuss how ocean dynamics may have contributed to the end of the last interglacial in the subpolar N Atlantic (PNAS).

IPICS special issue

graphic cp cover homepageThe PAGES endorsed group IPICS has published a joint Climate of the Past/The Cryosphere special issue providing an overview of its First Open Science Conference held in Giens, France in 2012.

More than 30 papers give an overview of participants' contributions to the meeting, including results from ice core drilling projects in Antarctica, Greenland, non-polar glaciers and other Arctic sites.
