The international conference "TRACE 2020 – Tree Rings in Archaeology, Climatology and Ecology" will be held from 12-15 May 2020 in Lund, Sweden.

*Update*

Conference postponed until 2021.

The local organizers in Sweden and the ATR board have taken the decision to postpone the TRACE 2020 meeting. Obviously this has been a very difficult decision, but for reasons of personal safety and to minimise financial loss for both delegates and local organisers we believe that this action is necessary.

Organizers are working closely together to explore alternatives for 2020 and they will communicate this within the coming weeks.

One very likely option will be to delay the in-person TRACE meeting by a year, if this is possible then organizers hope to be able to run the conference and workshops in a similar format. Those who have already registered for the conference will soon be contacted by the organizers.

Venue

The conference takes place in the Palaestra et Odeum, which is located along the north side of University Square, at the University of Lund.

Description

TRACE 2020 will bring together scientists and students who use tree rings as archives of environmental, historical, and climatological information. The conference also has pre-conference workshops and one post-conference excursion.

The conference seeks to build bridges, and facilitate knowledge exchange, between the different scientific disciplines working with tree rings. This is reflected in conference sessions with topics ranging from dendroclimatology and forest ecology, to tree physiology and dendroarchaeology.

TRACE 2020 is organized by the tree-ring groups from Lund University (Department of Geology), University of Gothenburg (Gothenburg University Laboratory of Dendrochronology, GULD) and Stockholm University (Department of Physical Geography), in cooperation with the Association for Tree-Ring Research (ATR).

Sessions

Dendroclimatology – the tree-ring archives to study Past, Present and Future climate variability
Dendroarchaeology – Tree rings and human history
Methodological challenges in analyzing tree-ring data
Forests ecology – tree-ring perspectives on global change impacts
Inside wood – wood anatomical features as indicators of environmental and climate changes
