The PAGES-supported 3rd IPICS Open Science Conference will be held from 18-23 October 2020 in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Centre de Congrès Le Régent
Route des Mélèzes 28

The Ice Core Young Scientists (ICYS) workshop will be held on 18 October 2020. The 3rd Open Science Conference runs from 19-23 October 2020.

Ice cores provide information about past climate and environmental conditions as well as direct records of the composition of the atmosphere on timescales from decades to hundreds of millennia.

With the pioneering work of Hans Oeschger (University of Bern, Switzerland) on carbon dioxide in polar ice cores, a long tradition of ice-core research in Switzerland began.

Less known is that Hans Oeschger also initiated a high-alpine drilling project on Colle Gnifetti in Switzerland in the 1970s.

To acknowledge Hans Oeschger’s important contribution to these two ice-core fields and to foster the link between the corresponding communities the theme of the conference is "Ice Core Science at the three Poles."

ICYS workshop

Ice Core Young Scientists (ICYS) is an informal, international network of early career scientists dedicated to the study of polar and alpine ice cores and ice core-related sciences.

Following the success of the workshop held four years ago at IPICS2016, a one-day ICYS workshop will be held on 18 October. It is anticipated that up to 100 early-career researchers (ECRs) will attend, with travel grants available to support those attending both the workshop and conference.

The day, themed "Communicate your science", will consist of keynote speakers, panel discussions and breakout sessions over a range of topics of science communication, and most importantly give the ECRs chance to meet their peers before a busy week of science.

Abstract submission

The call for abstracts closes 30 April 2020 at 23:59 CET:
