ࡱ> #%"s jbjb kk] rtttttt,`rrrr RյrComparison of mean July air temperature reconstructions from different groups of fossil organisms from the late-glacial and early Holocene sediments at Krkenes Lake, western Norway. The data are plotted against a calibrated 14C year BP time-scale. The Allerod (AL) ends at 12,700 cal. BP, the Younger Dryas (YD) ends at 11,530 +/- 50 cal. BP, and the first macrofossils of tree Betula occur at 10,900 cal. BP. Pollen, Chironomidae and Cladocera temperatures are reconstructed by calibration from modern training sets, macrofossil temperatures are estimated from modern vegetation analogues, and Coleoptera temperatures are reconstructed using the Mutual Climate Range method. The present mean July temperature at Krkenes is 12.60C, and this is indicated by a dotted line across the sections. The temperatures indicated on the macrofossil section are the boundaries of the mid-alpine and high-alpine vegetation zones today in western Norway, and the lower limit of Betula pubescens on the west coast of Norway. The Coleoptera temperature reconstructions are a few points only and cannot be joined up as a curve. The lines through all the other data sets are LOESS scatter plot smoothers, span 0.35 for pollen, and 0.25 for Chironomidae and Cladocera. Battarbee, R. W. (2000).
