Postdoc research position, Earth system modeling - Potsdam, Germany

For a new project "Modelling of long-term future climate evolution using a hierarchy of Earth system models" the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is offering a postdoctoral research position in the field of Earth system modeling, starting not later than 1 January 2019.

Logistics

Position number: (RD1-Postdoc-34-2018).

The position is funded for two years with a possibility of additional one-year renewal. Remuneration is in accordance with German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg), salary group E 13.

This is a full-time position with a weekly working time of 40 hours per week.

Description

Understanding future climate dynamics on a time scale of millions of years remains rather poor. This hampers reliable predictions of long-term future climate change under different anthropogenic forcing scenarios. By using unique methods with novel Earth system models developed at PIK, PIK aims to perform quantitative assessments of long-term future climate change scenarios, including the timing and magnitude of future glacial cycles. This information is essential for finding optimal and safe solutions for the permanent storage of nuclear wastes.
