Postdoc. Res. Assoc., dendrochronology - Sao Paulo, Brazil

A Postdoctoral Research Associate in Wood Anatomy, Dendrochronology and X-ray Densitometry applied to Climate Reconstruction is available at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Logistics

The PD fellowship is BRL 7,373 monthly or about USD 22,400 per year (net wage, tax free). A research contingency fund of 15% of annual salary will be provided for research activities.

Description

The Laboratory of Wood Anatomy and Dendrochronology of the Department of Forest Sciences, ESALQ/USP, offers an opportunity for a 24-month postdoctoral fellowship.

This position requires previous experience in dendrochronology and wood anatomy of (sub)tropical and tree species, with an emphasis on the tree-ring anatomical characterization and micro density.

Tasks

This position is part of a research project jointly funded by FAPESP and NSF.

Specifically, the postdoc will build chronologies based on tree-ring width, anatomical characterization and micro density.

The tree growth characteristics and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes will be used to assess the climate variability.

Requirements

The candidate must have obtained the PhD degree in the last seven years and be fluent in English.

Some experience in tree-ring stable isotope geochemistry is also desirable.

Applications

Selection will be based on the applicant’s CV analysis, and potential contribution to the project. Applications close 25 November 2019.
