PhD Student or PostDoc, palynological research - Göttingen, Germany

The Department of Palynology and Climate Dynamics at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany, is looking to fill the position of a Scientific co-worker (PhD Student or PostDoc).

Logistics

The position begins 1 January 2021 with 65% (PhD student) or 100% (Postdoc) of regular working hours (currently 25.87 hours/week (PhD) or 39.8 hours/week (PostDoc)).

The position is available for three years (PhD student) or ~two years (PostDoc). Payment is in accordance with E 13 TV-L scale.

Description

The department seeks a scientist to conduct palynological research on pollen rain samples and sediment samples, data analysis and interpretation of pollen and spore data in order to obtain a detailed reconstruction of vegetation, climate and environmental changes as well as human impact in Mongolia within the DFG project with the title:

"Studies on vegetation-, fire-, climate- and human history in the mid- to late Holocene – comparing multi-site evidence from the forest-steppe biomes in Mongolian Altai, Tosontsengel and Orkhon Valley".

Requirements

Requirements are a master or diploma in biology or related disciplines, profund knowledge and experience in palynological working methods, detailed knowledge of pollen identification, experience in multivariate analysis, knowledge in the interpretation of pollen data, and data processing software. Teamwork, very good English skills, reasonable fittness for fieldwork in Mongolia and willingness to work in an international research environment is expected.
