vics paper nov figEarlier this week, VICS working group members Matthew Toohey and Michael Sigl had their paper "Volcanic stratospheric sulfur injections and aerosol optical depth from 500 BCE to 1900 CE" published in Earth System Science Data.

This new volcanic reconstruction, describing the new eVolv2k volcanic forcing database for the past 2500 years, is based on improved ice-core records and reconstruction methodologies.

It is the recommended forcing for the past1000 and past2k experiments within the Paleoclimate Model Intercomparison Project phase 4 (PMIP4), which yesterday published the paper, "The PMIP4 contribution to CMIP6 – Part 3: The last millennium, scientific objective, and experimental design for the PMIP4 past1000 simulations", co-authored by many PAGES working group members and acknowledging the LandCover6k working group, in Geoscientific Model Development.

A recently slightly updated version of the eVolv2k database, packaged together with everything needed for its implementation into climate model simulations, is available on the PMIP4 last millennium experiment design page here.
