IPCC AR6 and COVID-19

ipccSurvey deadline 3 April

The IPCC Working Group I (WGI) Technical Support Unit (TSU) would like to solicit the research community's views regarding how the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is impacting the international research and how the community will be able to contribute to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Cycle (AR6).

The deadline for papers to be accepted for publication that can be cited in the Final Draft of the WGI Report is 30 September 2020.

The WGI TSU, and the IPCC more broadly, is investigating whether the COVID-19 outbreak could have any negative impacts on the IPCC AR6.

The WGI TSU would be grateful if you could spare five minutes to complete the following survey by 3 April.

The Second-Order Draft (SOD) of the Working Group 1 (WG1) contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report (AR6) is now open for review.

To facilitate a robust review of the paleoscience information, which is integrated throughout the report, a comprehensive list of the paleoscience contents is now available here. It was assembled by Darrell Kaufman with help from members of PAGES' Early-Career Network (ECN) and students at Northern Arizona University, USA.

Community feedback is needed to focus the key messages from paleosciences and to assure that the report presents the most current, comprehensive, and balanced treatment of the policy-relevant topics.

Input is also needed to identify the major paleoclimate/environment proxy and climate forcing datasets that inform the assessment of the state of knowledge. These resources are cataloged in Annex II, which is devoted to paleoclimate data. It is organized by multiple paleo reference periods that represent different climate states and that are the focus of paleoclimate modeling.

All review comments and authors’ responses are made available publicly. Reviewers are recognized for their input, with their name and affiliation included in the Annex of Reviewers in the published WG1 report in April 2021.

To review the report, register with the IPCC (here) before 19 April 2020 and submit reviews by 26 April.

For more information, contact Darrell Kaufman, PAGES SSC member and AR6 author.
