This special issue titled "Climate change and human impact in Central and South America over the last 2000 years", is a contribution to the LOTRED-SA Working Group. It emerged from the PAGES-supported meeting: "LOTRED-SA 3rd Symposium: Climate change and human impact in Central and South America over the last 2000 years: Oberservations and models" held in Medellín, Colombia from 9-12 July 2014.
