PAGES is pleased to join with its scientific partner World Data Service for Paleoclimatology (WDS-Paleo) to hold a webinar on on Wednesday 27 May 2020 focusing on new features that will help you find and download data more effectively and efficiently.

Webinar details

Promoting FAIR principles at NOAA’s World Data Service for Paleoclimatology
Presented by Carrie Morrill

Questions will be answered by Carrie Morrill, Wendy Gross and Imke Durre.

When: Wednesday 27 May 2020 at 14:00 UTC.
Webinar link: Will be provided closer to the date.

Second screening with LIVE Q&A

When: The webinar video from Wednesday will be replayed on Thursday 28 May at 17:00 UTC, followed by a live Q&A session.

We realize that the selected time is not optimal for interested parties from Asia and Australia, but it was chosen to allow for widest participation. For those who won't be able to attend, we will (1) record the webinar and add it to our YouTube Channel, and (2) respond to questions via other channels.

Description

The World Data Service for Paleoclimatology would like to announce several new features in Paleo Data Search that will help you find and download data more effectively and efficiently.

1. Download multiple datasets as a zip file.
2. Search by measured variable using a new controlled vocabulary, the Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus.
3. Access all metadata and data via an application programming interface (API).

Explore these features and get tips to improve your searches by using the new tour of Paleo Data Search.

Join us for this briefing to learn how to use these new capabilities, both to meet new WDS-Paleo data contribution requirements and to access data more efficiently and effectively.

Background

The primary mission of NOAA's World Data Service for Paleoclimatology (WDS-Paleo) is to ensure that global paleoclimatology proxy and derived reconstruction data are maintained in a permanent archive that is easily and openly accessible to the world science community and to other users. New initiatives of the WDS-Paleo, including bulk data download and the Paleoenvironmental Standard Terms (PaST) Thesaurus of measured variables, help to make these data FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, re-usable).

PAGES and WDS-Paleo signed a scientific agreement in 2019.
