A very informal PlioMIP2 showcase event will be held online on 12-13 July 2021.

Each day runs from 13:00-16:00 UTC.

Description

The Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project (PlioMIP) was launched in 2007 and officially became a PMIP working group in 2008. PlioMIP is a global network of palaeoclimate modellers and geoscientists who work together to better understand the sensitivity of the climate system to forcing, and investigate how well models reproduce climate changes of the past through the study of the Pliocene epoch (specifically the mid-Pliocene Warm Period: mPWP ~3.3 to 3.0 million years ago).

The second phase of the project (PlioMIP2) was launched in 2014 and now includes simulations from 17 different climate/Earth system models.

This informal event will describe the aim, objectives and history of the PlioMIP project, and present a number of the most important scientific products to date from PlioMIP1 and 2. It will also include some discussion around the future of PlioMIP.

PlioMIP has always taken its responsibility to nurture the next generation of scientists seriously, and this is particularly important at the present time. The event will provide an opportunity for early career scientists to engage with the wider PlioMIP community, as well as each other, to help build collaborations and boost networking/partnerships.
