A fully funded PhD position (3-4 years) is open for an enthusiastic young researcher to work in the Paleolimnology Group at the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, University of Bern, Switzerland.

Supervisor/mentor: Prof. Dr. Martin Grosjean, Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research.
Salary: PhD SNF Fellowships 47,000 - 50,000 CHF p.a.
The positions are available from September 1, 2022, negotiable.
The project will explore biogeochemical responses of lakes to events of Rapid Climate Change (Dansgaard-Oeschger Events, MIS-5e) across Europe (Germany, Poland, Switzerland and Italy) and NE China.
Analytical methods include Hyperspectral Imaging, XRF, HPLC, ICP-MS, sequential P, Fe and Mn extractions, and geochronology. The project is an international cooperation with Uni Bern, CNR (Italy), Universities of Mainz (Germany), Gdansk (Poland) and Hefei (China) and GFZ Potsdam (Germany).
The successful candidate holds a MSc (90 ECTS) in Earth or Environmental Sciences, Physical Geography, Paleoecology, Environmental Chemistry or similar. The candidate will be trained on all methods. Experience in paleolimnology, sedimentology, biogeochemistry and an interest in statistics is an additional asset. Strong language skills (English) and interpersonal skills are expected; German command is an advantage. The PhD candidates will enrol in the Graduate School Climate Sciences, U of Bern
