PhD student in peatland paleoecology - Poznań, Poland

There is a vacancy for a PhD student at the Adam Mickiewicz University within the research project SONATA-16 "Tracking disturbances in forest plantations using high-resolution palaeoecology and dendrochronology". The work is primarily based in Poland but it involves international collaboration. The scholarship is 36 months from the beginning of the project (PLN 5,000 gross with the employer's costs/month). The scholarship on the 4th year of doctoral studies will be covered by AMU Doctoral School. Start date: 1 November 2021.
The project will be exploring palaeoecology of peatlands located in the area of pine monoculture forests, human impacts, and long-term forest disturbances.
The PhD student will take part in all of the stages of the realization of the project (fieldwork, lab work, data analysis, preparation of publications, dissemination), and will be responsible for the performance of several analyses: peat properties, plant macrofossil analysis, insects (if present in the samples), preparation of peat samples for the analysis of isotopes.
- Master degree in geography, biology, ecology or related field,
- Good work organization, ability to work in a team,
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English to a degree that allows independent study of specialist scientific publications, participation in the preparation of scientific publications and presentation of research results at international scientific conferences,
- Willingness to work in the field,
- Basic knowledge in statistical treatment of the data would be an advantage.
