Science officer, Future Earth - Paris, France

The Paris Hub of the Future Earth Secretariat is seeking 2 Science Officers for 1-year contracts (renewable subject to satisfactory performance). The position will start as soon as possible and is a full-time French fixed term contract (Contrat à durée déterminée or CDD in French). The maximum annual gross salary is in the order of 34k € depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Note: The successful candidate must imperatively be eligible to work in France (i.e. EU citizen or holder of valid French work permit) for the duration of the contract.
The Secretariat for Future Earth encompasses 8 Global Hubs located in Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Sweden, Taiwan, and the US. The Future Earth Secretariat provides coordination and enabling services to Future Earth’s community of researchers, decision makers, and stakeholders. The French Hub is administered by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), and is hosted by Sorbonne University (Pierre et Marie Curie Campus). It is currently composed of six staff. The French Global Hub focuses on advancing the Science-Based Pathways for Sustainability initiative, the science-policy interface activities, and the early career activities.
The two Science Officers will work in a dynamic international setting on a range of issues. Based on their profile, each Science Officer will be involved in two of the following three areas:

- Working with the science-policy lead to coordinate activities, including event organisation, co-production of relevant publications, liaison with other Secretariat Hubs, researchers, and science-policy platforms such as IPBES, IPCC, UNFCCC, CBD.
- Under the supervision of the Capacity and Network lead, develop activities in support of early career scientists.
- Working with the lead of the Science-Based Pathways for Sustainability initiative on selected activities pertaining to this initiative.

Both Science Officers will provide coordination support to selected Future Earth research networks.

The role is dynamic and will evolve in line with the requirements of the team in the French hub and the global Secretariat.
- At least a Master’s level degree in sustainability science disciplines (natural or social sciences).
- Up to four years of work experience (including PhD period if relevant) related to global change and sustainability issues. Experience in international teams is especially valuable.
- Excellent organizational and communications skills. Ability to prioritize competing demands and deadlines.
- Experience in facilitation and network coordination is an advantage.
- Well-developed sense of autonomy and ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written). To evaluate writing skills, a test will be conducted during the interview.
- Fluency in English (native speaker level). Working knowledge of French and/or other languages is considered an advantage.
- Availability to travel within France and internationally.
