2. Apply to be on our Scientific Steering Committee
PAGES is calling for applications from scientists to serve on its Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) from January 2019. The deadline for consideration is Thursday 19 April at 17:00 UTC. 3. Call for new PAGES Working Groups
Does your heart pound for paleoscience? Know others who feel the same? Propose a new PAGES' working group to address a scientific question in an internationally coordinated way. The application deadline is Thursday 19 April at 17:00 UTC. You must contact a member of the PAGES Scientific Steering Committee to discuss your plans at least two weeks before you submit the proposal. 4. Apply for workshop/meeting support
The next deadline for PAGES' workshop/meeting support applications is Thursday 19 April at 17:00 UTC. Applicants must contact an SSC member at least two weeks before the deadline to explain the meeting plan and how it is relevant to PAGES. The meeting or workshop should be scheduled to take place at least six months after the application deadline (i.e. preferably from October 2018 onwards). 5. PAGES Early-Career Network updates
i. The ECN seeks regional ECN representatives who are interested in facilitating the global integration of early-career researchers (ECRs) into the wider scientific community. As a regional representative, you have the opportunity to share research, workshops and collaborations from your region with the wider ECR community. Roles of an ECN representative include being the point of contact for your region, collecting and sharing information about conferences, workshops and ECR job opportunities, and the willingness to represent the Network during scientific events. If you are interested, contact pages.ecn@gmail.com. Please put 'Regional ECN Representative' in the subject line.
ii. Authors are wanted for the new PAGES ECN blog, "The Early Pages", which officially launches 20 March. The purpose of the blog is related to one of the main goals of the ECN: To increase the visibility of ECRs and their work within the scientific and wider community. All interested ECRs are encouraged to write a short post in one of three categories:
1. Science Stories: Write a post about your work, for example a summary of your latest paper, a synopsis of your thesis or your ongoing project.
2. Experiences: Write a post on your field work, a research cruise, a conference or workshop or outreach activities.
3. Opinion: Share your opinion on something that is in the news or talked about on social media and has to do with your expertise. Or, write about an issue related to (work) life as an ECR in science.

6. IPA Lifetime Achievement Award for former PAGES co-chair

PALSEA2: The call for papers for the Quaternary Science Reviews PALSEA2 special issue, titled "PALeo constraints on SEA level rise (PALSEA): ice-sheet & sea-level responses to past climate warming" closes 1 April. v. PEOPLE 3000: a. 12. INQUA Congress 2019 - Call for sessions
The 20th INQUA Congress will be held from 25-31 July 2019 in Dublin, Ireland (http://www.inqua2019.org/, Facebook INQUADUB2019, Twitter @INQUADUB19). Deadline for proposals for scientific sessions is 31 March 2018. At this stage, INQUA is keen to encourage as many proposals as possible, even if there is risk of overlap with sessions already proposed: how to handle that will be reviewed after the deadline.
Proposals from PAGES working groups are especially encouraged, and also regional proposals, particularly from Africa, Asia and South America. Please contact INQUA's Scientific Committee Chair at sci-prog@inqua2019.org with any queries, and session proposals.
13. Future Earth updates
i. Future Earth has started publishing a monthly list of key global sustainability research. Access their selection for February: http://medialab.futureearth.org/februarys-most-signficant-global-sustainability-research-outputs/
ii. Director Amy Luers advised that Johan Rockström, who currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Future Earth Advisory Committee, has been appointed director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Germany. He will step down from his current position as director of Stockholm Resilience Centre, although he will continue his academic position at SRC. This change won't have any implications for Future Earth and Rockström will continue in his role as Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee with Leena Srivastava.

14. WCRP updates
i. WCRP is calling for nominations for its Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) for the four-year term 2019-2022. The JSC provides scientific guidance on all aspects of WCRP and accordingly aims for a balanced representation of relevant disciplines in atmospheric, oceanic, hydrological and polar sciences. In addition, the JSC aims to be an inclusive source of leadership for international climate research and thus seeks nominations of mid- to senior-career researchers from around the globe. i. LacCore/CSDCO opportunities: Supported by the US National Science Foundation (NSF), LacCore provides a wide range of training and support for early-career researchers from the US and abroad. The deadline for two important program opportunities is 16 March:
a. Drilling and Coring Summer Institute: The Drilling and Coring Summer Institute (DCSI) is a nine-day comprehensive training course for grad students, postdocs, and early-career researchers.
