Welcome to PAGES

The PAGES (Past Global Changes) project is an international effort to coordinate and promote past global change research. The primary objective is to improve our understanding of past changes in the Earth system in order to improve projections of future climate and environment, and inform strategies for sustainability. ... more

PAGES, a registered association for scientific research and networking, is open and inclusive to all scientists interested in past global changes. Science within PAGES is conducted by working groups, which are open to all paleoscientists working on the topic. Get involved by contacting the working group leaders, signing up to mailing lists, and attending teleconferences and/or workshops.

PAGES is funded by the Swiss Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences, and supported in-kind by the University of Bern, Switzerland. For administrative purposes, it is part of the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research (OCCR). PAGES is a Global Research Project of Future Earth, a scientific partner of WCRP, and a partner of WDS-Paleo.

img crias exhibit metzger webPAGES' Climate Reconstruction and Impacts from the Archives of Societies (CRIAS) working group proudly presents a new online art exhibition focusing on climate history.

Contemporary and historical climate change is beyond the scale of human perception. Meteorological extremes, such as droughts and floods, have generally left only indirect evidence in the material heritage of past societies. But scholars can combine instrumental data, proxy information, and written sources to reconstruct these patterns.

icon surveyHave your say by 14 February!

PAGES has prepared a survey (Google doc) to collect suggestions from the paleoscience community regarding PAGES' activities in the coming years.

It consists of three sections – About you, PAGES' priorities, and what PAGES can do for you – and should take about 10 minutes to complete.

The survey is anonymous, and the results will be presented in the upcoming 30th anniversary issue of Past Global Changes Magazine.

We look forward to receiving your feedback and thank you in advance for taking the survey.

Two IODP announcements

Details
Published: Thursday, 28 January 2021 15:48

img logo iodpThe PAGES-endorsed International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) announces two major opportunities to the PAGES' community.

Call for proposals - deadline 1 April

IODP facilitates international and interdisciplinary research on transformative and societally relevant topics using the ocean drilling, coring, and down-hole measurement facilities JOIDES Resolution, Chikyu, and Mission-Specific Platforms (MSP).

Request for information - now open

The JOIDES Resolution Facility Board (JRFB) is issuing a request for information (RFI) to understand the international scientific community's intent to propose to the 2050 Science Framework. Responses to the RFI will be considered by the JRFB in consultation with the other Facility Boards, funding agencies, and the IODP Forum, and they will inform planning on a potential future drilling program.

Access further information and links for both items in this pdf.

Or go directly to the submission portal on the IODP website.
