Guest scientist at PAGES

Gergis Ozdocs 12008 0083 580PAGES was delighted to host Australian scientist Joëlle Gergis during September. Joëlle, a Climate Research Fellow from the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, is Chair of PAGES’ Aus2k Working Group.

While busy preparing for the upcoming Aus2k workshop in New Zealand, Joëlle also worked on a global drought project during her time in Bern.

The aim of this project is to assess changes in global aridity over the last millennium to extend our understanding of long-term changes in regional hydroclimate, and evaluate how realistically future drought risk is simulated by CMIP5-PMIP3 climate models. The project will contribute to Aus2k's and the broader 2k Network's goal of better characterising hydroclimate variability over the past 1000 years.

She also gave a seminar in the Climate and Environmental Physics group at the University of Bern on Australasian and Southern Hemisphere climate variability over the past millennium.
