Abstract and registration deadline: 1 April 2011

The main objective of the proposed workshop on Western Pacific Paleoceanography is to bring together a diverse group of researchers who study primarily climatic proxy records from marine sediments of the western Pacific (East and South China Seas, western Pacific marginal and equatorial oceans) to discuss recent advances in understanding the mechanisms of western Pacific climate changes in late Quaternary.

Main Objectives

-To better synchronize high-resolution paleoclimatic records from late Quaternary marine sediment, cave, lake, and loess of the western Pacific and East Asia

-To discuss and evaluate the current conceptual models such as that involving long-term ITCZ, Monsoon, or ENSO-like mechanisms in interpreting western Pacific and East Asia paleoclimates and reconcile the discrepancies

To organize future research actions (data synthesis, marine expedition for coring, cooperation with climate modelers, etc.) of western Pacific paleoceanography.
