PAGES-relevant session:

035: Ocean Biogeochemistry and Climate Change: from Past to Present

Anthropogenic CO₂ is expected to have a significant impact, not only on global climate, but also on marine biogeochemistry, ocean circulation, ecosystem structure and ocean pH. Our capacity to assess and quantify these future changes relies on our understanding of Earth's natural variability and its tight coupling with the carbon cycle.

This session will focus on the interaction between ocean biogeochemistry and present and past climates from inter-annual to millenial time-scales with special emphasis on the carbon cycle, marine productivity and nutrient inventories, as well as the links to ocean circulation.

We welcome contributions from marine proxy records over long time scales (millenial, glacial/interglacial,..) but also short term anomalies (i.e. El Niño, NAO, etc.) dealing with physical, chemical and biological processes responsible for shaping the Earth's climate

Confirmed speakers:
Eric Galbraith (McGill University, Montreal, Canada)
Heather Stoll (University of Oviedo, Spain)
