10th Urbino Summer School in Paleoclimatology

Location
Urbino, PU, Italy
Dates
-
Meeting Category

The 10th summer school of the USSP consortium will focus on past climate dynamics with special emphasis on the analysis of the long-term carbon cycling and its implications in the understanding of present and future climates.

USSP 2013 will integrate lectures, symposia, fieldtrips, and exercises on the many different areas of paleoclimatology including biogeochemical cycling, paleoceanography, continental systems, and all aspects of deep time climate modeling. These techniques and systems will be explored through interactive discussions of Cretaceous OAEs, P/E hyperthermals, the Greenhouse-Icehouse transition, Neogene and Quaternary climate dynamics.

The goal of USSP is to provide participants with an advanced working knowledge on the paleobiological and geochemical proxy data and their use in reconstructing and modeling of past climates.

USSP2013 will be led by ~35 leading senior scientists from around the world and we will be able to accommodate ~60 students (end-MSc or early career Graduate and post Graduate) based on their submitted CVs.

Note for U.S. graduate students

To promote U.S. graduate student participation in this international experience, the NSF Geoscience Divisions and the Office of International Science and Engineering are funding ten scholarships to cover U.S. carrier airfare, stipend, and course expenses (including lodging). Interested students in U.S. graduate programs should email a one-page CV and one-page statement on how the program would benefit their professional development as a researcher and educator to nsfusspscholarship@gmail.com. In addition, students should request their primary adviser to email a recommendation letter directly to the above email address. Members of historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
