Workshop: Heinrich Events: Land, Ice and Ocean

Location
Southampton, United Kingdom
Dates
-
Meeting Category

Application deadline: 19 May 2012

The remit of the workshop is that by combining efforts from multiple fields of research, we might be able to start to unravel the enigma that is the mechanism behind, and forcings of, Heinrich events. The focus of the meeting would be on discussions surrounding four key questions, which are as follows.

(1) Were all Heinrich events the same?

(2) How do we define a Heinrich event and do we consider the transient?

(3) How fast can ice-sheets respond?

(4) How fast can feedbacks respond and where is the tipping point?

We hope that the workshop will provide a platform for a new collaborative working group, as well as a synthesis publication on the outcomes of the meeting.
