Date: 22-24 May
Location: Genoa, Italy
Venue: Polytechnic School, located in Stradone S. Agostino 37

Description

The 9th Edition of the International Conference on Meteorology and Climatology of the Mediterranean (MetMed) aims to show, discuss and disseminate the recent scientific progresses and contributions of the international scientific community on different aspects of the meteorology and the climatology of the Mediterranean region and foster communication and collaborations between different research groups, professionals from weather/climate services and stakeholders.

Oral and poster contributions concerning different aspects of meteorology and climatology of the Mediterranean region are welcome in one of the following Sessions:

1.     Climatology
2.     Processes and mechanisms
3.     Remote and in-situ measurements
4.     Numerical modelling
5.     Interdisciplinary studies
6.     Statistical and AI-based methods

Sessions

1. Climatology. Temporal and spatial variability of the Mediterranean climate and on methodologies for its characterization. Studies on extreme phenomena that imply risk on people and property. Long-term climate variability in Mediterranean mountain regions.

Invited Speaker: Prof. Piero Lionello (University of Salento)

2. Processes and mechanisms. Studies describing meteorological processes in the Mediterranean, of regional or local character, as well as related topics such as air quality, micro-meteorology, atmosphere-ocean-land interaction.

Invited Speaker: Dr. Shira Raveh-Rubin (Weizman Institute of Science)

3. Remote and in-situ measurements. Contributions describing such techniques applied to research, monitoring or numerical weather prediction, such as measurement of meteorological parameters, remote sensing, data assimilation and nowcasting.

Invited Speaker: Dr. Lluís Pérez-Planells (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)

4. Numerical modelling. Earth system numerical modelling at all time-space scales, from global to local, from meteorology to climate, including predictions, downscaling and bias correction.

Invited Speaker: Dr. Romualdo Romero (Universitat de les Illes Balears)

5. Interdisciplinary studies. Applications to health, energy, urban environment, coastal impacts, aviation and marine meteorology, neutral CO2 cities, civil protection, agriculture, forestry and fire risks.

Invited Speaker: Dr. Maja Telišman-Prtenjak (University of Zagreb)

6. Statistical and AI-based methods. Contributions describing applications to improve met-ocean forecasts/hindcasts from deterministic  models, produce purely data-driven forecasts and improve SGS parameterizations.

Invited Speaker: Dr. Lorenzo Mentaschi (University Bologna)
