The 2nd QUIGS workshop "Glacial terminations: Timing and Shape" will be held 18-20 October 2016 at the Geotop & Faculté des Sciences, Université du Québec, in Montreal, Canada.

Workshop outline

This workshop will focus on the timing and shape of glacial terminations and the onset of interglacials.

The motivation stems from:
(1) an increased understanding of the temporal shape and spatial pattern of the last two glacial-interglacial transitions (Termination I and Termination II) and the role of the bipolar seesaw, and
(2) improvements in constraining the timing of earlier terminations thanks to precise absolute dating performed on speleothems.

Workshop aims

The aim of the workshop will be to identify the best reliable data in the different climate archives about the timing of Terminations over the last 800 kyr and to combine them with recent simulations from conceptual models, Earth System Models of Intermediary Complexity and Earth System Models.

The following questions will be addressed:

1. What determines the timing of Terminations?
2. What controls the spatial pattern of changes?
3. What is the role of millennial-scale variability?
4. Are Terminations predictable?

Applications

There will be a limited amount of space available for the workshop.

Expressions of interest should be sent to Anne de Vernal and Emilie Capron by 30 June 2016 and should include a short description of research experience on the topic. A track record on glacial terminations is essential.

We particularly welcome applications from early-career researchers and from those based in developing economies working on relevant topics (partial financial support will be provided, subject to availability).
