Postdoctoral Research Fellow in (paleo)climate modelling - Tromsø, Norway

Tromsø, Norway
The Department of Geosciences at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø has a vacant postdoctoral position to work in the project ‘ARCLIM – The Arctic Ocean under warm climates’. The appointment is for a period of 2 years with a possibility of 1-year extension. In addition to this announced position, two PhD candidates and one other postdoc will be appointed to work with different tasks of the ARCLIM project.

Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.

The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.
The position is a part of the research project ‘ARCLIM – The Arctic Ocean under warm climates’ at the Department of Geosciences. ARCLIM will investigate the feedback processes between the Arctic Ocean and other components of the Earth’s climate system during warmer-than-present time past periods. ARCLIM is a multidisciplinary project that includes method development, data acquisition and earth system modelling. The appointed candidate will specifically implement seawater Nd isotope composition in the ocean component of the earth system model iLOVECLIM, including validation tests, and perform last interglacial simulations to investigate Arctic cryosphere-ocean circulation-climate interactions. Working with other ARCLIM team members and collaborators, a direct data-model comparison approach will be followed.

The position is affiliated with the research project ‘ARCLIM – The Arctic Ocean under warm climates’ at the Department of Geosciences and is closely attached to the Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrates, Environment and Climate (CAGE) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. The appointed postdoctoral candidate will benefit from cooperation with cross-disciplinary groups within ARCLIM, CAGE, as well as with other groups at the Department of Geosciences. The postdoctoral candidate will also work closely with Dr Pepijn Bakker and Prof Didier Roche at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (LSCE, Paris), including extended visits to VU Amsterdam and LSCE.
The successful applicant must hold a PhD in oceanography, physics, climate science or a related field. The suitable candidate must have documented experience with numerical modelling. Experience with high latitude paleoceanography is a clear advantage. The candidate must have a documented good command of English (both written and oral).

Additional required qualifications include:
