Arctic2k is a PAGES working group that generates high-resolution records of paleoclimatic data and synthesizes these data to reconstruct the temperature in the past 2000 years in the Arctic. The goals of the working group are to find if the warming of the 20th century of the Arctic climate is unprecedented in the past 2000 years, discover the periodic variability in the Arctic climate, and how much of the temperature changes can be explained by forcing. The recent activity of the group has been focused on the generation and interpretation of paleoclimatic data and publishing the results.

The goal of this workshop is to collect and assess the existing records of paleoclimatic data and to plan how to proceed in using all of the data to reconstruct the temperature in the past 2000 years in the Arctic. The collection and assessment of the existing data falls under synthesis, and the future plans belong to the planning stage.

Planned products:

- Plan for the collection and assessment of existing data

- Strategic plan for research in how to use and combine the existing data to reach the scientific goals of Arctic2k

- PAGES workshop report
