The Department of Oceanography at the University of Concepción, Chile, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geological Oceanography at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (based on candidate's experience). Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Oceanography or related field with a focus on geological oceanography and a strong background in the field of Paleoceanography. At least 2 years of postdoctoral experience is required.
Description
We seek an individual who combines expertise in the field and laboratory experience on paleoenvironmental proxy records (geochemical, sedimentological and/or micropaleontological) from ocean archives to study past ocean/climate variability, and who is committed to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Research duties include to i) develop, establish, and maintain an active, national/international funded program of scholarly research in the area of his/her specialty; ii) publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed, top-ranked journals; and iii) disseminate research results at national and international congresses/symposia as well as to the general public.
Tasks
Teaching and Advising: The successful candidate will teach courses in Geological Oceanography at the graduate and undergraduate level (in Spanish) and advise undergraduate and graduate students. The expected teaching load is at least 1 course per semester.

University services include: i) to participate in departmental/university committees, reviews, and research planning/leadership activities; and ii) to make research results available and accessible to the public.
Requirements
Ph.D. in Oceanography or related field with a focus on geological oceanography/paleoceanography
Postdoctoral experience (minimum 2 years) is required
A proven research record, demonstrated by publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
A proven record in teaching and mentoring, demonstrated by past and present teaching experience and mentorship, and courses designed and/or taught.
A record of student evaluations of your Teaching, if available.
Good knowledge of data processing and statistics.
Previous sea-going experience is welcome.
Excellent organization and communication skills are required.
Proficiency in English as well as knowledge of the Spanish language (intermediate level) are a requirement.
