Location: Utrecht, Netherlands and online
Venue: Landgoed Zonheuvel Hotel and Conference Centre

Description

This workshop is for MioOcean (a subgroup of PlioMioVar) compilation participants and related researchers to get together and progress their compilation efforts. The focus of the second meeting is to discuss temperatures, and the proxy-specific issues that have been resolved to generate these temperatures.

This meeting is tagged on to the end of MioMEET (5-7 June).

Funding Opportunities for Attendance

We have some funding for ECRs from PAGES, and some funding for UK participants with ties to IODP, to attend this in-person/hybrid workshop.

Ideally, successful applicants will use the funding to support travel to attend both MioMEET and our workshop, where possible.

Details: PAGES support extends to ECRs (within ~ 5 years of PhD) and researchers from ‘LIMIC’ countries (https://data.worldbank.org/country/XO); UK IODP support extends to researchers from UK and/or those with UK IODP connections.

Deadline: 15 March

Applications

For those who wish to target the PAGES funding:

  • Send an email to sevi.modestou@northumbria.ac.uk

  • Subject line ‘MioOcean workshop funding application PAGES'

  • Text document attached which includes the following information: name, institution, country of residence, position, year PhD awarded, a rough estimate of your expected travel costs, and a short paragraph outlining why you want to attend/how the meeting will benefit you, and what you will contribute (paragraph max 300 words!).

For those who wish to target IODP funding: This funding is more limited in amount, but can be applied to any UK researcher who has ties to IODP and the Miocene.

  • Send an email to sevi.modestou@northumbria.ac.uk

  • Subject line ‘MioOcean workshop funding application UK IODP

  • Text document attached which includes the following information: name, institution, position, other funding you may have, a rough estimate of your expected travel costs, and a short paragraph outlining how your attendance will benefit IODP’s remit as well as the overarching MioOcean/MioMIP/MioMeet communities (paragraph max 300 words!).

NB: These grants require reporting back to the funding agencies, including photos of participants; please inform the workshop leaders on the day if you are unhappy to be photographed.

Accessibility/modes of attendance

We intend to have as much of the workshop as possible streamed over zoom, but we still need to find solutions for making any breakout group style work accessible remotely (e.g., small discussions, hack-a-thon type in-person working).  It would be much appreciated if each proxy group could consider having one or two group members (who will attend in person) take point to help others in their group to connect online for this type of session.  As soon as we know exactly how the day will run, we will pass on the details.

Registration

We have a separate registration for the MioOcean workshop (following MioMEET in Utrecht (June 5-7).  Please fill in the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdc9iGtCTT6KKaEdfwXqualwPSX7ESS1Fp9h-hdKppCyUlTIg/viewform

Deadline April 25.
