This article is based on a keynote address delivered by John Dearing (PAGES SSC Member, Focus Leader) at the 10th International Paleolimnology Symposium held 25-29 June 2006 in Duluth, USA.
Most studies that reconstruct the climatic conditions of the past centuries to millennia tend to focus on the northern hemisphere. But now an intriguing multicentennial record of temperature and precipitation in southern South America is available. Raphael Neukom and Jürg Luterbacher of the PAGES LOTRED-SA Working Group elaborate on its significance for the IGBP Global Change Magazine. This article arose from the PAGES LOTRED South America initiative.

Enhancing tephrochronology and its application (INTREPID Project): Hiroshi Machida commemorative volume. A product from the INternational focus group on Tephrochronology And Volcanism (INTAV) of the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA). This resulted from the inter-congress meeting "Active Tephra" which was held in Kirishima, Japan, from 9 to 17 May, 2010 and co-supported by PAGES.
