Impact of warmer climate periods on flood hazard in the European Alps

The publication in Nature Geoscience titled "Impact of warmer climate periods on flood hazard in the European Alps" is the result of a successful consortium within the Past Global Changes (PAGES) Floods Working Group.

Densely populated European Alps, are of particular concern for large and sudden floods. Climate change will probably exacerbate risks around the world, which is costly both in human and economic terms. Lake sediment data provides fascinating insight on how long, continuous paleo-flood records can be used to disentangle complex climate–flooding relationships and assist in improving risk assessment and management at a regional scale.
