p3k14c, a synthetic global database of archaeological radiocarbon dates

Members of the PEOPLE 3000 working group have published a paper in which they present "a synthetic, global-scale archaeological radiocarbon database composed of 180,070 radiocarbon dates that have been cleaned according to a standardized sample selection criteria."


While acknowledging that archeologists are increasingly using large radiocarbon databases to model prehistoric human demography, and data show unprecedented potential for comparative research, the databases have been developed using different selection criteria. This, of course, poses challenges in interoperability for global-scale, comparative paleo-demographic research and integration with paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental data. 


Published in Nature, Bird D et al. argue that their database increases "the reusability of archaeological radiocarbon data and streamlines quality control assessments for various types of paleo-demographic research". > Article
