The fractional energy balance equation for climate projections through 2100

A paper in 2022 has been published by the Climate Variability Across Scales (CVAS) working group.

Authors: Procyk R, Lovejoy S and Hébert R

Simple Energy Balance models provide an alternative to General Circulation Models (GCM’s) that allows the basic principles of the climate system to be investigated in a computationally efficient manner. Procyk et al present an improvement to the energy balance approach that includes an energy storage component that better simulates transient changes in the Earth’s climate. The resulting model simulation shows comparable results to more complex GCM’s in projections of future climate change.
