Did climate turn back Mongols?

The sudden and currently unexplained withdrawal of the Mongol armies from Hungary in 1242 may have been influenced by environmental factors, according to a new study in Scientific Reports.
 
Euro-Med2k leader Ulf Büntgen co-authored the recent paper, "Climatic and environmental aspects of the Mongol withdrawal from Hungary in 1242 CE", which examines the circumstances that arguably contributed to the Mongols abandoning Hungary and returning to Russia.
