1. PAGES is hiring! Science Officer

3. Deadline 4 October for new PAGES working groups
Does your heart pound for paleoscience? Know others who feel the same? Propose a new PAGES' working group to address a scientific question in an internationally coordinated way. The application deadline is Thursday 4 October at 17:00 UTC. You must contact a PAGES Scientific Steering Committee member before 20 September to discuss your plans before you submit the proposal. 4. Working Group news
i. 2k Network: a. The International Relations Office at the University of Bern, Switzerland, profiled the PAGES 2k Network Temperature Database and interviewed some of its contributors. b. A CLIVASH2k workshop was hosted at the British Antarctic Survey from 4-5 September. More than 40 scientists from across the globe attended a series of talks and discussions centred on climate variability in Antarctica and the Southern Hemisphere over the past 2000 years. The meeting brought together researchers working on a range of different paleoclimate archives, including ice cores, peat, lake sediments and marine records, with climatologists, data assimilation experts and climate modelers. Financial support from PAGES, AntClim21 and PAIS ensured active participation from early-career researchers, with travel grants awarded to five ECRs from Peru, America, Australia, and Jordan. ii. C-SIDE: The preliminary program for the group's first workshop "Developing Data and Modeling Capacity to Understand Past Changes in Sea Ice in the Southern Ocean" is now available. And there are still five places available to attend - 24-26 October 2018, Vancouver, Canada. See point 7 for all details.
iii. CVAS: The third workshop will now be held 24-25 January 2019 in Seattle, USA. See point 7 for all details.
iv. DAPS: Save the date! The 2nd (and final) DAPS workshop will be held from 29-31 May 2019 in College Park, MD, USA. See point 7 for all details.
v. PALSEA: To celebrate the 2019 launch of the next phase of the PALSEA working group, we've made a new logo! Take a look, and read all about PALSEA's plans, here: http://pastglobalchanges.org/ini/wg/palsea/intro
vi. Thresholds and Tipping Points Integrative Activity: Registration is now open for the AIMES/PAGES joint workshop in Hamburg, Germany, in November. A few places are still available to attend, but no funding support can be provided. See point 7 for all details.

6. PAGES Early-Career Network updates
i. The next ECN webinar, "How to peer review a scientific paper effectively", will be hosted by Graciela Gil Romera on 5 October. The webinar will be held twice - at 08:00 and 16:00 GMT - to encourage international participation.
