Convened by the United Nations General Assembly and co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, the “United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development” was held from 27 June to 1 July in Lisbon, Portugal. More than 6,000 participants, including 24 Heads of State and Government, and over 2,000 representatives of civil society attended the conference to address the call for urgent and concrete actions to tackle the ocean crisis. Future Earth hosted a side event: Future Earth’s marine networks: a trans- and interdisciplinary scientific community working toward the achievement of the SDGs. The event brought together nearly 60 oceanographers, researchers, government officials, NGO representatives, and civil society members onsite and online. Watch the recording or read more here.
