Meeting Coverage: Activities of PAGES Executive Director - November and December 2022

Past Global Changes (PAGES) Executive Director, Marie-France Loutre, arrived in La Serena y Coquimbo, Chile, to kick off her first workshop in a series of events and meetings. The workshop entitled "Past Socio-Environmental Systems (PASES)" is a joint effort by PAGES and INQUA to support early-career researchers (ECRs). It aims to facilitate scientific exchange between ECRs from a broad range of disciplines that work within the overarching theme of climate-environment-cultural change, which is at the core of both PAGES’ and INQUA’s missions. While in Chile, the Executive Director of PAGES will also meet with Fabrice Lambert, a PAGES Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) member, and visit the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile to talk about the role PAGES plays in the scientific community and, more specifically, with Future Earth.

Thereafter, the Executive Director will attend a PAGES-funded meeting on "Lakes as Memories of the Landscape" from 27 November to 1 December in Bariloche, Argentina. The event is organized by the International Association of Limnogeology (IAL) and the International Paleolimnology Association (IPA) and aims to bridge the gap across a broad range of disciplines related to the Earth System and Climate-Environment-Cultural changes. While in Argentina, the Executive Director will meet with PAGES SSC member Maria Eugenia Ferrero and with the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), a key partner of PAGES for fellowships in Latin America and the Caribbean. She will also visit the National University of Cuyo, Mendoza, to talk about PAGES' mission to coordinate paleoscience in South America.

The Executive Director will resume her trip by attending the Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) from 12 to 15 December in Chicago, USA. This is one of the most important events globally dedicated to advancing Earth and space sciences, with several PAGES working groups holding sessions during the meeting.
