1. PAGES 2k Network temperature database

The PAGES 2k Consortium, a subgroup of the larger 2k Network, published a paper in Scientific Data last week regarding the updated temperature database, the most comprehensive collection of information on global temperature change over the past one to two thousand years: http://www.pastglobalchanges.org/products/highlights/10535-2k-temp-database-sci-data-17

9. IPCC Special Reports and Assessment Report

PAGES would like to remind the paleoscience community that the process of writing the IPCC Special Reports and Sixth Assessment Report has started.

1. Special Report on Global warming of 1.5°C (SR15): http://www.ipcc.ch/report/sr15/

2. Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC): PAGES 2k Network leader Nerilie Abram has been selected as a Coordinating Lead Author for this report. The first lead author meeting will be in October and the report will be delivered in late 2019: http://www.ipcc.ch/report/srocc/

3. Special Report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems (SRCCL): http://www.ipcc.ch/report/sr2/

4. Sixth Assessment Report (AR6): The table of contents and list of authors will soon be decided. Paleoscience will most likely be embedded in each chapter (there will be no separate paleoscience chapter this time): http://www.ipcc.ch/


10. Future Earth updates

i. Several different early-career networks and initiatives around Future Earth will organise an online conference to exhibit the perspectives of leading early-career researchers on the challenges for science and society to inform and govern the relationship between society and the planet. Titled "Early career perspectives on Future Earth - ecology and civilization", this online event will take place from 9-17 August 2017. ii. Proposed new initiative "Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events - Reducing Disaster Risks under Environmental Change" needs your input by end of July. Contact Fumiko Kasuga for more information: fumiko.kasuga@futureearth.org
