Gina Moseley: Climate Change, the Karst Record IX (KR9) - Innsbruck, Austria, 19 - 20 July 2022
We received a Green Tirol Certificate from the local government. This involved meeting many strict standards including:
1) accessibility via public transport;
2) recommending accommodation within walking distamce or accessible via public transport; 3) efficient heating and water system in the building;
4) encouraging participants to use environmentally-friendly transport;
5) bicycle parking spaces were available;
6) reusable crockery and cutlery was provided by the caterers;
7) no single-portion packs of condoments;
8) large containers of sugar etc;
9) no disposable capsules for tea or coffee;
10) no aluminium drinks cans;
11) waste was appropriately marked and placed in separate recycling containers;
12) Regional and seasonal products, preferably organic, were offered;
13) Non-regional products such as coffee, tea, chocolate, fruit juices were fairly traded; 14) At least half of the starters and main courses were meat-free;
15) Eggs were obtained exclusively from free-range husbandry, preferably in organic quality;
16) Fish cames from local sources;
17) When purchasing products of all kinds, attention was paid to regional origin, existing environmental seals of approval and/or the possible involvement of non-profit organizations;
18) Paper and printed matter were reduced and not issued randomly;
19) No giveaways were given;
20) A contact person was given who could provide information on accessibility, catering, etc. (e.g. on the homepage);
21) When seating and setting up tables, areas with sufficiently wide spaces and aisles for wheelchairs, walkers and baby carriages were created;
22) free childcare was provided for the duration of the conference;
23) Seats in the front rows were reserved for people with hearing and/or visual impairments;
24) In all mailings, programmes, invitations etc. neutral language was used in order to address everyone.
